Love others as much as you love yourself

A very positive precise of the Christian world view. I accept the sentiment but disagree about the need for God.

The title seems to go without saying. Most of us were raised to put others ahead of ourselves by giving the go-ahead at the four-way stop to the car that was there first or helping a little old lady cross the street. Governed by rules of legality and social etiquette, these examples are hardly representative of how God calls us to love others.

You may wonder why I’m talking about loving people in a broad way that seems, at first glance, to have little to do with romantic love and personal relationships. But these examples and principles have much to do with learning how to love in the way that God intends us to
